Does the drunk driver who killed the new bride have regrets?

POSTED ON: 05/15/2023

You've probably heard the drunk driving story that is gaining nationwide attention by now

A bride was killed just hours after her own wedding, and her groom was badly injured. Several lives were forever changed.

Alleged drunk driver Jamie Komoroski, 25, was arrested and charged with three counts felony DUI with death and/or great bodily injury and one count reckless vehicular homicide.

According to Folly Beach Police, she was driving 65 mph at the time. According to sources, that is 40 mph over the speed limit on the island.

Expected consequences/sentence for drunk driving charges

At the time of this post, not much is known about Jamie's expected sentence. The story is still too new to know what consequences she'll face. According to arrest records, Komoroski was denied bond.

Does Jamie regret her decision to drive drunk that horrible night?

At the time of this post, Jamie hasn't made a public statement yet. It's hard to know exactly what she feels, but something mentioned in a news story leads us to believe she wishes she could change the outcome of that night. According to the affidavits, Komoroski was booked under suicide watch at Charleston County jail because she told an officer at the hospital she wanted to kill herself.

Did she know she should not have been driving?

When police approached her on scene, an officer noticed an odor of alcohol coming from her breath and person. She admitted to drinking alcohol that night. When asked where she felt on a scale of one to ten, one being completely sober and ten being the most impaired, she responded with "eight". According to the affidavits, when she stood up, she was "very unsteady" on her feet and almost fell down. The officer said they helped her stand.

Sad situation all around

The nation is outraged with this incident, and even people who didn't know the family is mourning the new bride's death and sending prayers to her injured widow. It's also sad to think about what lies ahead for Jamie Komoroski. She is 25 years old and just graduated college with a degree in marketing a few years ago. She had her whole life ahead of her, she could have done great things with her future. And now her name is associated with a depressing turn of events, suicide watch, legal challenges, and many other troubles which will no doubt make her future much harder. It's so sad seeing people succumb to the temptation to drive drunk, but it's especially difficult to digest such a young life changed forever by the decision.
