Eat, drink, and be scary: But wait 'til you're sober to drive home

POSTED ON: 10/28/2021

As the premier provider of ignition interlock devices in Louisiana, we really care about our customers. We know that statistically more people seem to have trouble resisting the urge to drive drunk on holidays. Halloween is no exception. Halloween is such a fun holiday. It's filled with candy, costumes, celebrations, and temptations.

Boos and booze: the perfect combination?

It's all fun until someone does something really scary like driving or walking drunk. Getting behind the wheel after drinking is always a very dangerous decision. On Halloween night, drivers have even more to pay attention to on the roads. They should also keep an eye out for pedestrians — whether they be children trick-or-treating or adults who have had too much to drink. While walking is usually a much safer option than driving, you should be especially careful walking on Halloween since there is so much traffic and so many distractions.

Having a plan is a spook-tacular idea

If you plan to drink, plan for a sober driver to take you home. Is it your turn to be the designated driver? Take that role seriously and do not consume alcohol, not even one drink. Always remember to plan ahead if you will be celebrating:
- Remember that it is never okay to drink and drive. Even if you’ve had only one alcoholic beverage, designate a sober driver or plan to use public transportation or a ride service to get home safely.
- If you see a drunk driver on the road, contact law enforcement to report it.
- Don't let a friend drink and drive. Take the keys away and make arrangements to get your friend home safely.

Halloween is scary enough without drunk drivers on the road

The U.S. Department of Transportation shared a spooky statistic: During Halloween night during the years 2014-2018, there were 145 people killed in drunk-driving crashes. That's so scary!

Don't let your decision to drink and drive haunt you

Let’s keep our goblins and monsters safe by committing to sober driving — Halloween night and every other night. If you need our help keeping this commitment, contact us to learn about how our ignition interlock products may be able to help.
