How to get rid of that restricted license: Interlock device monthly service

POSTED ON: 03/26/2020

You want to move past the mistake of your DWI charge, and you had a breathalyzer device installed in your vehicle. But now what? You’re trying to figure out what needs to be done to meet the requirements of DMV, your restricted license, and your newly installed breath tester. It's just all a bit overwhelming. Smart Start of Louisiana understands that this is a hard time for you, and we’ll try our best to make sure the maintenance of your interlock device is one less hassle.

STUFF HAPPENS

While we do set appointments, we like to remind our customers that communication is so important. If you are working or cannot make it in on your scheduled appointment date, we can work with you to reschedule. Our unit allows a 5 day grace period past your scheduled appointment date. But you need to contact us as soon as possible so we can help you.

MONTHLY SERVICE AND CALIBRATION

Once a month you will need to bring your vehicle in for service and calibration. At this time, you will make your monthly payment and the information that is on your interlock device will be downloaded and sent to your monitoring authority. Your equipment will be calibrated during each visit to make sure it stays within the operating parameters that NHTSA, Louisiana state law, and your specific program require.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T BRING MY VEHICLE IN?

In the event your grace period expires, your vehicle will go into a lockout and the vehicle will not start. Our device has a remote code unlock feature. You’ll call us at (866) 447-8686 to get the code. Then you’ll be able to start your vehicle one time after a successful breath test. At that point you’ll need to drive the vehicle directly into a Smart Start service center.

LET OUR FRIENDLY STAFF KEEP YOU ON THE ROAD SAFELY

Our statewide service centers are flexible to your needs when your monthly service appointment is due. From the time you call to schedule your interlock appointment until the time we remove your device, you will receive courteous and prompt service from all of our qualified technicians and customer service representatives. We appreciate you choosing Smart Start of Louisiana to help you separate drinking from driving! We invite you to continue learning about ways to get your life back on the road by visiting our blog.
