Parents can use our devices as a way of preventing their teens from driving the vehicle after drinking

POSTED ON: 10/21/2021

Now in its 14th year, National Teen Driver Safety Week is dedicated to raising awareness and seeking solutions to prevent teen injuries and deaths on the road. National Teen Driver Safety Week takes place October 17-23, 2021. This grassroots movement has brought millions of teens, parents, schools, law enforcement agencies, advocates, and policymakers from across the country together to tackle the number one cause of death for teens in the U.S. – car crashes.

How Smart Start of Louisiana can help

Ignition interlock devices, or vehicle breathalyzers, have great potential in the fight against drinking and driving. Many people who use our products have been ordered to do so by a court, probation officer, or a specific program they’re in. But some people voluntarily install our life-saving products to protect themselves or their loved ones by preventing drunk driving accidents or monitoring alcoholism. Parents can use our devices as a way of preventing their teens from driving the vehicle after drinking.

Teen driving issues

Teen drivers face many challenges while learning and improving their driving skills. Things like texting and other distractions can be especially dangerous to these new drivers. Teens must also learn the dangers of driving while impaired from even light alcohol or drug use. Peer pressure and lack of life experience can make these temptations even stronger for young drivers.

Why we help

According to MADD, ignition interlock devices have stopped a driver who is drunk from starting his or her vehicle over 3 million times since 2006. As their use has grown nationwide, breathalyzers have cut down on the number of alcohol-related traffic fatalities. One big reason we do what we do is to make the roads safer for our families and yours.

If you need help

Though most people seek our products following a DUI or DWI as a requirement from the court or other authority, our devices can be installed and used voluntarily as a way to prevent drunk driving. Contact us or call us at 1-866-447-8686 to find out how we can help keep your teen driver safe.
